It’s another Thanksgiving at Grandma’s.

Gavin is ready for a day of boredom, but his cousin Rhonda has a different idea: escape for the kids’ room and head for the swing set in the backyard!

Gavin isn’t so sure, especially when they encounter vicious guard dogs, a hallway full of aunts, and, worse yet, the great wall of butts! Will they manage to avoid the obstacles and find some fun before turkey time, or will they be captured before they’ve had a taste of freedom?

This is a clever Thanksgiving story unlike any other, telling the very realistic tale of what a modern-day thanksgiving gathering is like when you’re a kid.

Thanksgiving for me as a kid meant being surrounded by relatives I didn’t recognize and eating food I didn’t like. I do remember one specific Thanksgiving at my aunt’s house, where my cousins had the TV on the Cartoon Network Thanksgiving Marathon and I watched the whole time. I’m pretty sure my cousins were either watching the TV or playing in the background, but I wasn’t really paying attention to them.

The illustrations are hilarious. Everything is seen from the kids’ point of view and their eye level. My mom especially loved the kids noses, she says they look like hot dogs.
