6th Grade and Up
Brystal Evergreen changed the world, but the journey is just beginning…
Brystal and her friends have saved the world from the evil Snow Queen and secured worldwide acceptance for the magical community.
However, when a mysterious new witch arrives at the academy, the celebrations are cut short. As the witch begins recruiting faeries into her rival school of witchcraft, it becomes clear she has dark intentions. And soon Brystal’s friend Lucy becomes embroiled in an ominous plot against mankind.
Elsewhere, the fragile peace is on the brink of shattering. Outrage has spread throughout the kingdoms in opposition to the legalization of magic. And, a dangerous and centuries-old clan known as the Righteous Brotherhood has resurfaced, with one goal in mind: to exterminate all magical life forever…starting with Brystal…
This story, like the first one, addresses many social issues including discrimination, oppression, prejudice and pointless hatred. But even with all these tough topics, Chris Colfers creativity and sense of humor once again shines through.
In a nutshell, the Righteous Brotherhood is a clan of closeminded idiots who have chosen to devoted their lives to hate and oppression in a pointless quest to rule over all. I hope the people who read this book will understand just how absurd the Righteous Brotherhoods beliefs are.
We learned about magic in the first book, in this book we learn about witchcraft. I was a bit confused on what the difference between magic and witchcraft is. Now I understand that witchcraft is darker and more macabre than magic. While Magic focuses on improvement, rehabilitation, manifestation and imagination, Witchcraft focuses on jinxes, hexes, potions, and curses. And it keeps being said that performing witchcraft affects the persons appearance but magic does the same thing, just not as terrifying I guess. The big question here still is is witchcraft evil? This question is debated and explored throughout both books. In my opinion, it depended on who you ask for there is no true answer, just opinions.
Bit of a spoiler, but I just want to say that this story does a great job at addressing depression in an authentic way. As someone who has been plagued with depressive and negative thoughts most of my life, I can vouch on its authenticity.
SPOILER ALERT: There is a HUGE Land of Stories Easter egg.
Hint- its located towards the end.
Unfortunately, the book leaves off on a huge cliffhanger. This does insinuate that there will be more books but being left hanging like this is extremely annoying.
