Book Title & Alexandra's Review

Letters from Space by Clayton Anderson

1st Grade and Up

Astronaut Clayton Anderson spent 152 days in space aboard the International Space Station. And while he didn’t mail dozens of letters back to Earth (they would have burned up on reentry!), imagine if he did!

This is a book that kids and adults will love. Both silly and informative, this book is full of weird science and accurate facts about life in space, complete with hysterical illustrations that include the occasional alien cameos.

I love the letter-writing format. It’s so clever and funny. Apparently, all the people Clayton writes to are based on real people in his life. My favorite letter was about space food and how it looks like cat food.

The Author’s Note includes more detailed explanations of the information in Clayton’s letters. Things like taking photos from space and how easy it is to lose small items in zero gravity.
