Molly’s school picture day is coming up, and she wants to look her best. Her mom picked out a nice dress for her, but Molly knows from experience that dresses are trouble. Luckily she has the perfect thing to save picture day – her brother’s old tuxedo!
But mom doesn’t want her to wear a tuxedo in the photo. She thinks Molly looks best in the dress. Can Molly find the courage to follow her heart and get her mom to realize how awesome she’d look in a tux?
I agree with Molly’s reasons for not wanting to wear the dresses. They are tight and puffy, and you have to wear ‘fancy shoes with no purpose’ (Molly’s choice of words here is spot on), and, worst of all, they have no pockets. Molly sees the tuxedo as dashing and comfortable. Plus, it has pockets.
I didn’t like dresses as a kid either. They were uncomfortable, and I refused to wear them. As an adult, I have a few dresses, but I’m still uncomfortable wearing them in public.
I love how angry Molly looks when she’s wearing the puffy dress and how happy and free she looks when wearing the tux.
The mom was pushing for her to wear the dress, but in the end, she lets Molly decide what she wanted to wear. It’s important for kids to have a say in what they wear. Especially when they are asking for something reasonable.
