Book Title & Alexandra's Review

Simon and Chester Graphic Novels Books 1 – 3 by Cale Atkinson

I’m so happy that Cale Atkinson is continuing the story of Simon and Chester’s odd friendship through a graphic novel series. Their story is too good not to expand on.

2nd Grade and Up

Simon and Chester: Super Detectives!

Welcome to the world of Simon and Chester, ghost and boy duo extraordinaire.
They like to kick butt and take names.
They don’t like chores.
They are best friends.

Join Simon and Chester in their first adventure as they solve the MYSTERY OF A LIFETIME.

(Oh, and eat some snacks, probably.)

A detective story is a perfect start to the series. Kids love playing detectives. I know I did as a kid.

I love this story so much! I love how Simon goes way over the top, making so many crazy accusations, while Chester tries to be the voice of reason.

Simon and Chester remind me of my own characters, Maddie and Albert. They are both best friends who are very different but still have fun together. After reading this book, I hope to write a Maddie and Albert detective story someday.

Simon and Chester: Super Sleepover!

Join Simon and Chester in their second adventure featuring all the ups and downs of a sleepover party!

I love this story even more than the first one. It is so cute!

I love how Simon helps Chester prepare for his first sleepover. Even though his advice wasn’t very helpful. Both Simon and Chester’s expressions are so exaggerated. It’s hilarious!

Plus, I counted eight times Simon’s cute little ghost butt is shown.

Simon and Chester: Super Family!

Join Simon and Chester in their third adventure as they navigate family dynamics and a very important ghost conference!

We’ve seen in the past books that Chester lives with his grandma. What happened to his parents has yet to be revealed. Anyway, Chester feels like he’s missing out when he sees other families out doing fun family things. So, he jumps at the chance to join his friend Amie and her family on a trip to the water park.

So, while Chester’s out doing ‘normal family things,’ Simon is stuck going to a boring ghost convention. When he gets there, he says the best line in the whole book. “Why are these things always at an abandoned conference center and never an abandoned candy factory?”

This is my favorite Simon and Chester story so far! I’m looking forward to the next book, scheduled to come out in January 2024.
