Book Title & Alexandra's Review

The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids Series by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thornton Jones

It’s the Last Saturday of September and also my 500th book review!

I hope you’re ready for an October full of frightening monster stories.

Let’s get started with a classic spooky book series full of supernatural monsters . . . or are they?

There are some pretty weird grown-ups living in Bailey City!

Liza, Melody, Howard, and Eddie encounter many strange characters, who may or may not be mythical beings on a regular basis.

This is an old series of books about four kids who come across strange people they suspect are mythical/supernatural creatures. The first book was published back in 1990. I didn’t read all 51 books in ‘The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids,’ ‘The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids Super Specials Series’ or ‘The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids Holiday Specials.’ I read most of them but not all of them. I did spend a lot of time at the library and at the bookstore putting them in the correct order. If you haven’t noticed by now, I was a weird kid. I wasn’t as into reading as I am now. I was more into being read to instead of reading the book myself as a kid.

I loved the weird titles, the cover art, and the short sentences on the cover more than I liked reading the stories. Here are a few of my favorite titles/stories:

Cupid Doesn’t Flip Hamburgers (Bailey School Kids #12)

Is the new cafeteria cook putting the school under a spell?

Gremlins Don’t Chew Bubble Gum (Bailey School Kids #13)

Miss Kidwell had lots of tricks up her sleeve!

Zombies Don’t Play Soccer (Bailey School Kids #15)

There is something GRAVELY wrong with the new coach!

The funniest thing about these books is that the kids never prove that the person they are accusing is actually a mythical creature. But they don’t disprove that they aren’t. I regret not reading the whole series, but I recommend giving these books a chance.

I was shocked when I found out that ‘The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids’ books were being adapted into graphic novels for young readers. I never thought for a second that this series would be brought back. Then again, everything seems to be getting a reboot these days.
