Its almost that time of year again!
Lets get ready for a horror-filled October with master mystery writer April Henrys latest book.
High School
For Adele, the dead arent really dead.
She can see them and even talk to them. But shes spent years denying her gift.
When she encounters her ex best friend Tori in a shallow grave in the woods – and realizes that Tori is actually dead – that gift turns into a curse. Without an alibi, Adele becomes the prime suspect in Toris murder. She must work with Toris ghost to find the real killer. But what if the killer finds Adele first?
This is the first time April Henry has added a paranormal twist to one of her stories AND SHE TOTALLY NAILED IT!
The summary I got from the book sleeve only skims the surface of what this story has in stored.
(Light Spoilers Ahead)
What sets this book apart from other seeing the dead stories is that everyone, including Adele, questions her mental health throughout the entire story. In other books the person with the ability is able to keep it a secret from everyone including family members and if someone does find out, that person either believes them or thinks theyre crazy and leave it at that. Its not just Adeles sanity thats question; her mother, her grandmother, and her great-grandmother, who all had the ability, were seen as crazy and met a terrible end.
I really enjoyed April Henrys take on ghosts. Instead of being able to roam freely, a gray rope of mist is attached to the back of the ghosts head tethering them to their bones. So, Adele can only see them if shes near their bones.
I could see this becoming a crime solving book series, like Medium crossed with NCIS. Adele could show up at murder scenes, talk to the ghost, then use forensics to prove what happened based on what the ghost tells her. Boom! Mystery solved!
I had to wait a month for the library to get this book in and it was worth it to read this wonderful mystery thriller.
This weeks Weird but True Fact about Ghost Animals
Legend has it that the ghost of a black cat lives in the basement of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. It appears only before a major disaster.
